Being Mum

The day dawned without sun and the cloud cover continued throughout the day.  It was so much cooler than yesterday but the washing dried and we made plans.  Mel woke looking a little better and we headed to Ellenbrook for morning tea at the Dome Café.  Merv enjoyed his apple pie and cream while I indulged in a large flat white and Mel delighted in  her English Breakfast tea while we shared fruit toast with the trimmings.  A quick trip to the supermarket for a few items and we're home again.  Mel began to say her eyes hurt and her forehead hurt.  On went my doctor's hat again.  Dustin was booked to attend the Eagles versus Dockers game at Patterson Stadium but I had no choice but to ask for his help.  He didn't mind missing the game and watching it at home with his Dad.  I took Mel back to the hospital GP clinic and she was given penicillin to replace the antibiotics.  She didn't appear ill, just uncomfortable with her swelling. The doctor said to follow up with her own GP in a couple of days and pointed out if she gets headaches or pain in her eyes to go straight to emergency.  We had time to pick up her new medicine and watch the game at home with Dustin and Merv.  The Eagles lost but Dustin stayed for dinner and we all enjoyed oven baked salmon with roast potatoes, pumpkin and cauliflower and asparagus.  We had planned this dinner since Friday and it was lovely to share it with Dustin and catch up on everyone's news.  After dinner Mel said she was feeling better but her eyes were beginning to swell.  I will check her throughout the night and take her to emergency if necessary.  No matter how old your children are, they never stop needing you!
